Franklin County African American Interest Group in Columbus, Ohio

I was honored to be the Keynote Speaker at the Franklin County African American Interest Group 25th Anniversary Luncheon on May 6, 2017, in Columbus, Ohio. The invite came from President Elect, Gayle Wilson and the Anniversary Chairperson, Stephanie Sparrow Hughes.

The luncheon was a sell-out with members and their guest as well as a dozen or more members from the Cleveland, Ohio African American Genealogy Society including Dr. Deborah Abbott, Gary Franklin, President of Journey Toledo Ohio African American Genealogy Group, and

Memorable moments came when the interest group members shared with me their passion for genealogy and their love for their genealogical group. One of the members stated, “I told by husband that I am not cooking when I have my genealogy meeting. My husband looked at me and said, ‘What’?”

The President Elect, Gayle Wilson will be sworn in as president in January 2018 as the first African American president of the Franklin County Genealogy Society; and she was recently elected as a trustee for the Ohio Genealogical Society. If you want to know more about the event, check out their web site calendar at
